Head First HTML with XHTML and CSS
Head First HTML with XHTML and CSS is a very different experience from your average web development book. It is written in a very informal and fun way. HTML concepts and syntax are explained in plain English and your understanding is constantly reinforced throughout the book. The authors guide you through the process of creating web site based on an example of a fictional café.
The book starts with basic HTML before moving into XHTML and CSS. It goes into a lot of depth on CSS. Some people find CSS confusing, but Head First makes it very easy to understand, even for the novice. To it's credit it does cover standards compliant coding and explains how to validate your code using W3C’s tool. Concepts are reinforced with a series of innovative puzzles, quizzes and discussions. If you follow the book from cover to cover and do all of the exercises, you will have a very good understanding of HTML, XHTML and CSS.
Head First HTML is a superb learning instrument for someone with little or no HTML experience. It makes learning HTML, XHTML and CSS easy and therefore succeeds where many other HTML books fail. It is comprehensive, but not a reference book for experienced HTML developers due to its style and layout. It is perfect for the beginner and is also helpful for more experienced web designers and developers who might need a refresher course.
